Month 9, Day 22: Vic Premier agreed to meet post Election if I live that long and I suppose as a premier he has the same issue

This morning I called into the openline on Jon Faine on 774 ABC Melbourne and spoke with Premier Denis Napthine.

774 ABC Melbourne replayed my conversation this afternoon on the drive program with Rafeal Epstein during the ‘Fight Club’ segment with Health Minister David Davis and Shadow Health Minister Gavin Jennings.

PS: Dr Rodney Syme was off to be interviewed by the police today, it will be interesting 1 am sure. If they lock him up I will have to go off to support him!

Month 9, Day 21: I love my boy/man Mitch

Wow what a day. Below is our interview with Neil Mitchell raising a few different points on the Dying with Dignity debate. He is a very kind interviewer and asked us back in February to celebrate Mitch starting work and me being there.

I have also included the ABC News report from last week about the Dying with Dignity Senate Hearing. I reckon it is a goodie, hope you do.

We also did some work with Fiona Patten to assist her with the upcoming State Election and us in the crowdfunding. Although they are small the Australian Sex Party and Fiona would add diversity of worth I think to Victoria Parliament, just as the Greens so capably do.

Funny thing politics, they closed parliament today to honour Gough. I wonder if they will close Coles Express for the day when I die…….. 🙂

I feel things are starting to gather momentum in the crowdfunding, a bit like a telethon, but long way to go, need pedal to the metal, so feel free to  help every $5 counts, and 2 weeks left. Tab at top takes you there, just under 500 funders so far. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/dying-with-dignity-documentary

Month 9, Day 20: Chemo Day & Photo

This morning just prior to loading up on Chemo (in for a slow week) I had the fun of meeting and having a long chat with the Head of Palliative Medicine at the Hospital I call home. We had a really interesting chat around all aspects of it as she wanted better to understand my needs and ensure her team understood me. Very useful and a world class experienced professional.

I have a few new ideas I am going to try, I will let you in on. Feedback welcome.

1. Occasionally I intend to have on a guest blogger, say maybe a Rod Syme, Richard DiNatale, my wife or son etc. Idea is they can express some views pertinent to the current DWD process and you may get some interesting new slants on my journey

2. I think I will get involved in the Victorian Elections. The key state parties refuse to meet me which is abhorrent, not publicly discuss the topic with is equally abhorrent. At a Federal level some believe against the polling, that they can also ignore or vote down change that is this needed and wanted with no consequences. Therefore I am looking  to use the Victorian fishbowl, to ask voters who are swingers, but who believe the law needs to change to include Dying with Dignity, to vote for the parties and maybe some particular people who have it as a fundamental part of their policy and have supported me so far. Clearly this is Greens and The Australian Sex Party. This will hopefully achieve the consequences of changing a few faces in parliament  and bringing some new ones to the political process.  It may also show the Federal counterparts how important it is to embrace the Exposure draft in theFederal Senate and it may even get the PM to embrace the need to go on record as welcoming a conscience vote in Federal parliament as my petition over the last 5 months has pleaded. Mr Abbott you have more time than me, lets meet soon!

PS I am on 3AW with Neil Mitchell in Melbourne tomorrow at 9:30am, listen in.

Crowdfunding still on, don’t miss the chance every $5 welcome and necessary. 2 weeks left running out of time.

My morning photo I like walking chemo.

Month 9, Day 17: A Global Problem and PM is hiding

Dying with Dignity is indeed a Global movement. We are a part of a world on this that is striving for change. Today World Federation of Dying With Dignity further supported my/our crusade to get the law changed to the benefit of the terminally ill. Furious Tony Abbott will not engage around conscience voting. I need to get political, help me!

It is no surprise but with less than 20 days left on crowdfunding I do have to push in a few blogs the huge need to activate those wallets and help ensure my documentary gets made. I hope to live to die under the law but doubt it. The documentary is my plan B and as you would understand is a huge private thing to set my family up for, BUT we are all in and well on the way.

The world is supporting us as you see in the link below. Surely it is not to much to hope for more than 460 people to chip in a few bucks. The world has a few billion people, please be one. Check out the link and thanks in anticipation.

On normal stuff had a great day, caught up with a good friend who came to coffee with a Penfolds Bin 389! Talked to a business friend in Singapore which should become a great dinner, studied some legal stuff, a brief for an Affidavit I am going to do in a manner that it will be admissible in a case post my death, did an interview with a great budding freelance journo. Also had a visit from my Pallitave care team who I love, and from my Oxygen bottle supplier, great chats and ideas and a quick zoom to the hospital for bloods as Chemo again on Monday. Great vampire, did not feel a thing. Cuddled my dog and family. Off to the beach with friends for the weekend. Who says choice and control over ones future does not make for a fantastic today! Another day.

Dr Rodney Syme the man who started me on this and has shown me he will ensure I have the knowledge and means around choice, also got back to Australia after a month overseas. Great comfort, can’t wait to catch up.

Surprise me with the fundraising by Sunday night, it will be a great documentary.

Month 9, Day 16: Senate Hearing clips and how it felt

Yesterday was a long day, but it really paid off with reports on ABC News and Seven News last night and other newspaper websites. This is big to get Dying with Dignity into the mainstream media TV. It has been a while.

I sat through most of the day listening to other for and against witnesses and really could see no stong rational not to progress this legislation. Senator Singh (L) and Senator Di Natale  (G) were very impressive in their knowledge and ?. The rest of the panel also very astute. Often gross non factual generalisations which had been submitted to this hearing and very old studies and incorrect facts were clearly shown for what they were, myopic barrow pushing. Dying with Dignity Victoria also put the most incisive facts and rationale and what I would see as knockout blow, to the slippery slope debate. It was music for the ears!

Please click here to watch the Seven News report.

Below are a couple of newspaper articles from the Herald Sun and News.com.au which have covered yesterday’s hearing.

Interesting development in Brittany Maynard story. She and her version of Dying with Dignity are trying to raise $500,000 to fund expanding Dying with Dignity laws to greater than the current 5 states in the United States. Where it is amazing is an angle supporter has come in and said they will donate $1 for every $1 raised effectively doubling the outcome.

Crowdfunding for my documentary to change the law for all Australians is going well at nearly 400 funders and 52K but I really need help to tap into the bulk of my friends, associates and supporters who just haven’t got to it. If this is you please follow the documentary/donate tab at top of blog. Pushy aren’t I, must be something to do with importance of  the goal and only 19 days to hit it. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/dying-with-dignity-documentary

Month 9, Day 13: The Senate Hearing on Wednesday

Today I am working on polishing my intro for the Senate hearing on Wed 15th in Melbourne. It is public so if interested the details are below. Not sure how big the room is. I am very excited as the only solo person or as they call it witness to be called. Let me assure you I am going into this in the belief I am representing the thoughts, hopes and wishes of my 21,000 petition signers, my Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn supporters, The Dying with Dignity and associated groups, the politicians who have represented to me they support Dying with Dignity and of course the 82% of Australians who want this draft bill turned into national legislation. I also feel I owe it to both Senator Richard Di Natale and Dr Rodney Syme who have given me the power of understanding such an inspirational pallitave tool, namely CHOICE about medically assisted Death when terminally ill.

Please click here to read the formal letter of invitation to the Public Hearing which is taking place on Wednesday regarding the exposure draft of the Medical Services (Dying with Dignity) Bill and click here to read the program for the hearing.

Crowdfunding has 21 days left and we are getting close to $50,000, so $50,000 to go. Thanks so much to the 385 funders so far, and feel free to join in now if you are considering it. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/dying-with-dignity-documentary

We still have 4 drive of a lifetime packages available in perks so be quick and get one for Christmas. All funds from them go straight to the documentary. Click here to find out more information

If you miss tonights 2GB interview with Steve Price after 8pm don’t worry I will put it on the blog tomorrow.
