Month 7, Day 6: Cancer Council and Daffodil Day

As part of my cancer journey I joined up 4 years ago as General Manager at Coles Express with the Cancer Council and Shell to raise funds. We had a goal by year 3 to raise on, and leading up to Daffodil Day $1million. Last year we hit $826K. This year is poised to blow it off the charts.

You can help by visiting Coles Express to buy a ball, bear or pin but put Friday 22nd August into your diary to fill up at Shell Coles Express as part of every litre will go to the cause.

I love what the Cancer Council team do to support the many people through journeys like mine when they are at their most vulnerable. There are many causes but make this one yours, and tell the team member Shorty asked you to drop in. Will be a few more prompts leading up to Friday 22nd August and I will let you know the outcome.

Click here to see my story on the Daffodil Day website, would love a like!

  1. Will certainly be heading in to Coles Express to buy my bears , thank you so much Peter for your ongoing inspiration and hard work, Lillian Clark

  2. Shorty,
once again you’ve bought a tear to my eye. I’m so proud to be apart of the cexp team and as you would be well aware we are going full throttle on this one this year. Already engaging with customers to get the word out and hopefully make this the biggest 1 yet! I may only have a small site but we are very proud and pushing strong.

    Mia 🙂

  3. I keep following your story peter and wish you Elizabeth and Mitch every success with your fight to get this legislation passed. You may also be interested to learn that Erica had the counter council come here on Monday to interview her on the ” forgotten cancers” . She too is trying to raise awareness and support for the less ” popular” cancers in terms of fundraising. It is hard to keep the energy going when it is you guys who are struggling to feel well. I love your positive energy and approach to you illness and your dying does make it easier on everyone . Robyn Lees x

  4. Shorty,
I can tell you that personally your story has influenced my team to drive daffodil sales this year, we are banking over $100 worth of donations a week and have nearly sold out of merchandise, we are having 2 PMTDR days and will get those donation boxes rattling for a good cause, because this year it’s personal.
You have left a huge hole in stores Australia wide and I’m sure on Friday the 22nd we all as a team will pull together and smash that $1000000 target.
This is one of the many reason’s I am proud to be a part of the CEXP family, we always pull together for a good cause.

    • What a great note. Thanks. It will certainly be exciting to see where it ends up. I am confident we can do it. $1million is a huge outcome for the cancer council and the cause and a tremendous reflection on what CEXP is capable of.

  5. Hey Shorty.

Unfortunately at this years Forum my ever changing hair color will not be V-Power red.
This year my hair is of course Daffodil yellow and if we reach our $1000 donation aim. (Which we will smash, of course) my ever eager regular customer base who have watched my hair change constantly over the last few years are deciding who will get the honor of shaving it off. has always been a focus since I lost my Dad 3 years ago but this year we are hitting it harder than ever.
If your back down Gippsland way feel free to pop into Traralgon Cexp, would be great to see you.
    Bec Smith
